Global Development & Medical Affairs
Global Development and Medical Affairs is responsible for the clinical development of our products and to ensure their safe and effective use through the dissemination of medical information to physicians, payors and patients.
“We recognize the importance of our work first and foremost to the patients, who count on us to provide treatment options that enhance the quality of their lives. We also acknowledge our responsibility to physicians, regulators, payers and investors, to whom we must demonstrate a social and economic return on investment,” says Brian Daniels, M.D., senior vice president, Global Development and Medical Affairs.
“We have the right processes and governance standards in place to ensure our clinical development programs generate the highest quality data with only the necessary resources to support them. This allows us to focus on those compounds that promise to provide the most value to our patients,” adds Daniels. Novel techniques, such as modeling and simulation, seamless Phase II-Phase III trial design, adaptive trial design and the use of indicators, such as biomarkers, allow us to answer specific questions regarding selective populations and potentially reduce time to market for our medicines.
In our recruitment and development of talent, we of course consider a candidate’s educational skill sets, but also give equal attention to a person’s business traits and acumen, such as integrity, self-motivation, ability to work collegially, willingness to take appropriate, calculated risks and experience with regulatory agencies, physician groups, academic organizations and payers. Agility and adaptability are critical characteristics that engender success in a continuously changing business environment. Our vision for Bristol-Myers Squibb is not only to change, but to flourish. Therefore, we continually look for ways to improve our organization to meet the challenges the future may hold.
“We look for people who desire more than just a job. In R&D we strive to advance the science of our medicines while steadfastly upholding the highest ethical standards. So, we seek people who are driven by the possibility of helping tens of thousands of patients prevail over serious diseases,” says Daniels.
