Disaster Relief & Product Donations
Bristol-Myers Squibb has a long history of partnering with non-profit organizations, donating medical products to support long term health care programs in developing countries as well as addressing immediate needs to provide emergency disaster relief.
For years, Bristol-Myers Squibb has acted quickly in times of need. Whether after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, after the massive 2009 flooding in Indonesia, or the horrific earthquake in central China in 2008, each disaster has demanded - and received - immediate assistance and attention. Bristol-Myers Squibb also donates products for ongoing international humanitarian assistance. Our efforts are undertaken in collaboration with major international non-profit organizations, including AmeriCares, Catholic Medical Mission Board, Direct Relief International, MAP International, Medical Teams International, National Cancer Coalition, Project HOPE and Save The Children. Product donations totaled more than $23.8 million (at wholesale value) in 2010.
To complement the medicines that Bristol-Myers Squibb has donated in times of need, the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation has also provided funding to support international relief partners to help enable timely responses with humanitarian aid to sudden natural disasters. A cash donation to Save The Children helped ensure that children’s physical and emotional needs were met in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsumani in Japan this year; those to the American Red Cross, Catholic Medical Mission Board and Partners in Health helped these organizations respond in the immediate aftermath and in their long-term response efforts, and donations to the American Red Cross have aided in the response to domestic natural disasters such as the tornado in Joplin, Missouri.
Bristol-Myers Squibb is a founding member of the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD), a group of non-governmental organizations and pharmaceutical and medical supply manufacturers dedicated to the development, dissemination and adherence to high standards in the delivery of medical products to underserved people and disaster victims around the world. BMS also complies with the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for pharmaceutical donations.
