FAQs
What does the Community Grants Program fund?
Bristol-Myers Squibb seeks to align local giving with its mission of extending and enhancing human life. Our main areas of interest are:
- Addressing unmet medical needs.
- Reducing health disparities
- Eliminating barriers to treatment, especially for patients with chronic diseases.
- Improving the quality of science, technology and mathematics education in local schools.
- Providing essential services to people in need through civic and community programs.
- We prefer to support programs that will have a direct impact on our communities rather than fundraising galas and other requests for general assistance.
Who is eligible to apply for a grant?
Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Community Grants Program accepts applications online from IRS-qualified 501 (c)(3) non-profit organizations whose mission and programs are consistent with our areas of philanthropic interest, and which serve the communities where our employees live and work. Click here for locations of our facilities in the United States. Tax-exempt organizations including hospitals, government institutions and schools that serve our local communities may also apply.
Who is not eligible to apply?
In our efforts to strategically focus contributions on the areas outlined in these guidelines, we discourage requests for the following types of support:
- Direct scholarships or grants to individuals
- Organizations that are not tax-exempt
- Endowments
- Political, lobbying, fraternal or social organizations
- Religious organizations whose activities are primarily sectarian in purpose
- Non-profit organizations that discriminate on the basis or race, gender, creed, culture, age, national origin, physical disability, sexual orientation, or status as a military veteran
- Unsolicited funding for capital campaigns
- Loans
- General operational deficits
How do I submit my grant proposal?
All grant applications must be submitted online.
Once your online application has been submitted, you will receive an acknowledgement at the e-mail address indicated on your application.
Do I have to complete the application in one online session?
No, you can start the application and choose to save and finish at another time. When you opt to do this, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address and create a password for your future access to the application you are working on.
Can I get a copy of the application form?
You may print a copy after completing the application form, or at any time while filing.
How do I return to an incomplete application that I saved, but have not yet submitted?

When will I be contacted about the status of my proposal?
After you submit your application, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. After an initial review, you may be contacted to provide additional information. All communications will occur via e-mail. After review, you will receive a letter notifying you if your grant request was approved or not approved.
When do you accept proposals?
We accept applications throughout the year.
How long does it take to review a proposal?
We generally process grant requests within six weeks of receiving a completed grant request and all required supplementary materials. Please be aware, however, that Bristol-Myers Squibb cannot commit to process any grant request within any specific time period and strongly urge application submission at least 12 weeks in advance of the date of required funding.
What IRS designation does my organization need to be eligible for funding?
To request a charitable contribution, your organization must be a federally tax-exempt, section 501(c)(3) charitable organization, or tax-exempt government entity.
Can one organization receive multiple grants?
Yes. Organizations may submit multiple grant requests for different projects or support opportunities. However, only one grant request may be submitted for the same project in a single year.
Whom should I contact if I have any questions?
For technical support in the application submission process, you may reach a grant administrator from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET at 800-831-9008, selecting option one when prompted. For more general questions about the Community Grants Program, please contact Frederick Egenolf, Director, Community Affairs, at 609-252-4983.
If our grant or charitable contribution request is approved, may we use the Bristol-Myers Squibb logo to list the company as a sponsor of our program?
In order to use a Bristol-Myers Squibb logo, you must submit an official request after your grant has been approved. Once we receive the request, we will determine if a logo is appropriate and provide the correct wording and logo for your program or activity.
