Industry Benchmarking
At Bristol-Myers Squibb, we regularly compare our performance with our peer companies as well as with companies in other industries. In November 2008, we benchmarked our performance against other major pharmaceutical companies, based on publicly available information on each company's Internet site.
The charts below summarize these data, normalized by sales to facilitate comparison of performance across companies that vary considerably in size. In each chart, "A" represents the company with the best performance for that particular indicator.
Bristol-Myers Squibb's performance, when compared to the benchmarked
companies, showed significant relative improvement for 2008 in the area of
hazardous waste generation.
It is important to note that there are inconsistencies in the way different companies measure and report environmental performance. As our peer companies in the pharmaceutical industry report more information about their sustainability performance, we will compile that information and post it publicly on this site.
